One measure of the effectiveness of the work of the Foundation is the amount of funds distributed for ministry. A total of over $5.9 million was distributed in 2016, including distributions to beneficiaries of unitrusts and charitable gift annuities, distributions from endowment trusts to beneficiaries (local United Methodist Churches and Conference affiliated agencies), and distributions/withdrawals from custodial accounts benefiting local United Methodist Churches and Conference affiliated agencies.
There are many stories behind those numbers—stories of how lives are transformed by gifts from donors who left a legacy of Christian generosity. In 2015, the Foundation distributed over three million dollars to a variety of beneficiaries, including local churches, conference-related mission projects and health and welfare ministries, scholarship recipients, and other countless ministries in our Annual Conference and beyond.
Distributions from trusts held at The Foundation are made according to the Spending Policy adopted by The Foundation's Board of Trustees. Accounts that receive a regularly scheduled distribution of income from The Foundation will receive 3.5% of the average market value of the account during the last twelve quarters rather than the traditional distribution of interest and dividends only.
